Cosmetic rhinoplasty in Vancouver does not require a doctor’s referral. Patients can contact a private clinic directly, book a consultation, and meet a plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon on their own initiative.
A referral becomes necessary only when the surgery is medically funded. MSP covers nasal surgery for functional problems such as a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, or a nose broken in an accident, and that pathway begins with a family doctor or nurse practitioner who refers you to an otolaryngologist (ENT) or plastic surgeon.
Many Vancouver surgeons still request medical records or past imaging before a combined septorhinoplasty, because one portion of the operation may qualify for provincial coverage while the cosmetic portion does not. Bringing your BC Services Card and any previous nasal CT scan to the first appointment saves considerable time.
